West Highland Terriers along with similar other breeds like Cairn Terriers, Scottish Terriers, etc. are native to Scotland. These dogs get easily excited and are considered as extroverts. They look very cute and needs regular grooming as well as trimming. West Highland White Terriers can be easily distinguished amongst hundreds of dogs due to their white color dense and soft coat. They are also referred to as Westies with love by many of their owners.
Physical appearance:
Although the dog is medium-sized, it is sturdy. They have height between 10 and 11 inches. These dogs generally weigh 15 to 20 pounds. They have compact body with dark brown eyes, upright ears and short curl tail. They have shorter body as compared to their height. They have rounded face with white hair over it. Their inner coat is soft, while the outer coat consists of thick long hair that feels hard to touch.
Grooming and Behavior:
They need to be brushed two times in a week and kept clean. Generally, Owners clip their dogs every 4 to 6 weeks.
They are normally good with children and other pets. However, they may dislike too rough play. They easily become part of large group of children playing. It is to be noted that the male westies tend to become aggressive towards other male dogs.
Exercise and Training:
Being active animal, they love long walk and even playing. These dogs entertain themselves by playing with toys. They start chewing destructively on getting bored and even dig large holes.
They can be easily trained by their owners. They are capable of being independent.
