Swedish Vallhund Dog Breed Pictures

Often referred as Viking dog, Swedish Vallhund dog is believed to have been originated approximately 1,000 years ago. They are one of the herding dogs with great herding instinct even today. They are said to be related to Welsh Corgi dog, albeit there is no exact relationship determined until today.

Physical appearance:
These dogs have long body profile with moderate height, approximately between 11.5 and 13.5 inches. They are moderately built and weighs between 25 and 35 pounds. Their core features include erect ears, beautiful dark brown eyes and wedge-like head. They have strong legs and naturally bobtail or long curly tail. Their inner coat is dense and soft to touch. Contrary to this, their outer coat is medium in length and is rough to touch.
Generally, they are of gray, grayish brown, grayish yellow or reddish brown color with unique pattern on their shoulders.

Grooming and Behavior:
They need to be brushed two times every week. Besides this, they need additional brushing during the spring and fall season due to lot of shedding of coat. This breed of dogs is very active and is always ready to run and play.
They require owners that can train them and also perform tasks like herding and canine sports with them. They are good with pets and kids.

Exercise and Training:
They bark a lot troubling everyone around with their noise. This can be controlled with proper training. They live well on being trained. They require training that includes something new each time they are trained. Their training can include advance obedience, trick training and canine sports as well.
They also need regular walk and exercise.

Health and Lifespan:
Swedish Vallhund dog usually suffers from health problems like hip dysplasia, eye disorders, cleft palate, etc. They have lifespan of 12 to 14 years.
