Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Pembroke Welsh Corgi is one of the oldest breed of dogs. These dogs have been used as herding, guardian and companion dogs. The exact origin of the breed is not known and there is difference of opinion amongst the experts over it. Some believe it to be descendent of Swedish Vallhund, while the others believe that it was bred from Schipperke.

Physical appearance:
They can grow 12 inches tall and weigh somewhere between 28 and 30 pounds. These dogs have fox-like face. They have brown eyes oval in shape and erect ears. The dog has strong body. These dogs are not heavy, but well built. The tail of the dog is bobtail naturally or is docked. These dogs have thick undercoat and are of medium length. These dogs can have coats of red, fawn, black and tan and sable color with or without white patches over it.

Grooming and Behavior:
This breed requires brushing twice weekly. However, this breed sheds a lot two times in a year. Thus, they need daily brushing during their shedding season.
These dogs are guardian dogs by nature. They behave well with children and other pets. However, they may sometime treat kids as sheep.

Exercise and Training:
These dogs are very active. Thus, a long and ball game along with training on agility can serve as good exercise regime for the dog. These dogs need regular activity and love canine sports such as tracking, flyball, herding, etc.
It is easy to train them. Early socializing can also help them a lot. This breed must not be left inactive for too long. 

Health and Lifespan:
Pembroke Welsh Corgi may get prone to diseases like eye disorders, hip dysplasia, stones in bladder, etc.  They have an average lifespan of around 12 to 14 years.
