Pug Dog Breed Photos

With the history of over 2000 years, the Pug dog is one of the most admired breeds that have been used as gift by diplomats, ambassadors, explorers, etc. to please others for some gain in return. This practice resulted in spreading pugs globally – first to Japan and then elsewhere via Europe. Originally companion dog, the breed is considered as a lot in a small package. Pugs like the couch potato lifestyle.

Physical appearance:
It’s one of the toy breeds. These dogs look cute and are small in size just like the toys. Generally, they have height between 10 and 11 inches. They weigh up to 18 pounds normally, albeit few are exceptionally heavier.
These dogs have rounded face and short wrinkled muzzle. Their heads are large with beautiful expressive eyes and folded ears. Their body is dense and strongly built. The dogs have curly tail that rests over their hips. They have short and silky coat. The coat can be of silver, apricot-fawn or black color. The face and ears of the breed is always black.

Grooming and Behavior:
They need to be brushed at least two times in a week to look beautiful. Also, the face wrinkles should be cleaned after they dirty them while eating or playing.     Extroverts by nature, they are great friends. They shouldn’t be overprotected during their puppy-hood as it could make them fearful. They easily mingle with other dogs. However, their interactions with other dog breeds should be monitored as they may land up injuring themselves.

Exercise and Training:
These dogs face breathing issue during hot and humid days on being exercised hard due to their short muzzle. A long morning and evening walk along with little ball game is more than enough. They love trick training. However, they need to be trained with utmost care due to their potential breathing problem. House training these dogs can be a challenging task to do.

Health and Lifespan:
Pug dog relish eating and thus, obesity is a health concern. In addition to this, eye disorders, allergies, pug dog encephalitis, knee problems, etc. are some of the common health concerns. They can normally live up to 16 years.
