Being the first dog to be selected for police training, Boxer dog is amongst the top ten most popular dogs at 7th position as per American Kennel Club. They are considered as the descendents of Old English Bulldog and Bullenbeisser (extinct specie). They are named after their trait of standing erect on the hind legs and boxing with their front legs.

Physical Appearance:
They are strongly built and medium-sized animals. They normally have height between 21 inches and 25 inches. They weigh between 50 and 80 pounds. They have powerful body with the head carried high and docked tail. They have short, square muzzle. This breed of dog has dropping ears. However, the ears of the Boxers are often cropped for American Kennel Club competition. They have smooth fawn coat with white patch on the chest, legs and feet.

Grooming and Behavior:
Their coat should be brushed at least two times in a week with curry comb. Boxers love sports. The adult boxers exhibit aggressive behavior while interacting with other strange dogs. Thus, the young boxers should be socialized and encouraged to play with other breed dogs to avoid this aggressive behavior. Sometimes, this breed of dog can be very stubborn. However, proper training can bring improvement in their stubborn behavior.

Exercise and Training:
Boxers need regular moderate exercise. However, they must not be exercised during hot and humid days under the sun as it can make difficult for them to breathe due to their short muzzle. They should be trained to obey their owners during their puppy-hood. They should be trained on continuous basis, but it should be fun. They can live with other pets with peace. These dogs behave well with kids.

Health and Lifespan:
Boxer dogs can live up to 11 years. They are generally prone to diseases like torsion, hip dysplasia, breathing problems, etc.
