Often referred as Barbichon, the Bichon Frise is bred from the Barnet. Originated in Mediterranean regions, these adorable white dogs with their small size and attractive coat make great companion dogs. During 1300s, many sailors brought these dogs as companions along with them. This resulted in spreading them throughout the world. It is to be noted that Henry III and Napoleon III loved this breed of dogs.

Physical appearance:
Bichon Frise weighs up to 16 pounds. They have height between 9.5 inches and 11.5 inches. The females of this breed are smaller than the males. These dogs have deep dark eyes. Their tail is carried gaily at the back. They have fluffy white color coat which is very attractive and soft to touch. These dogs are strongly built, albeit their size is small.

Grooming and Behavior:
The coat requires proper grooming regularly to prevent it from getting tangled. If the tangling is ignored, then the whole coat may get tangled. Later, this may require professional groomer’s services to finally shave off the dog. Thus, the coat needs to be brushed daily. Also, it requires trimming after regular intervals.

They require socializing at an early age. Some of the Bichons are reserved, albeit they are generally extroverts. They are active and alert dogs. They tend to bark at people approaching house. They are affectionate and playful with the family and friends.

Exercise and Training:
They require regular exercise. A morning and evening walk along with catch game during midday can be more than enough. They love playing and they have been part of many competitions of agility, flyball, etc.
House training these dogs can be a tough task. This breed is intelligent, but requires careful watch while training.

Health and Lifespan:
They may suffer from knee problems, eye disorders, allergies, etc. They can normally live up to 15 years.
