According to American Kennel Club, Yorkshire Terrier dog is at the third position amongst the top ten most popular dogs in the world for the year 2005. Considered as the descendent of many old English terrier dog breeds, this dog is an extrovert and reacts to every small action like doorbells. Developed in late 18th century, this breed of dogs was firstly used by working class people as companion dog and even for vermin. Soon, these dogs gained popularity amongst the upper and royalty.

Physical appearance:
They are very terrier by nature, albeit they are small in size. These dogs held their heads high to portray themselves as important. They just have 8 to 9 inches of height and they hardly weigh up to 7 pounds. Their body structure is almost balanced and square. They have dark black button-like eyes that can attract you at first glance. Their upright ears are small and V-shaped. They have beautiful silky coat, which is very soft to touch. In case of fully grown dogs, the coat also falls to the floor. Generally, they have docked tails. These dogs are wrapped with blue color coats with little tan on the head, legs and even under the tail.

Grooming and Behavior:
Grooming these dogs is really difficult, if the coat is long. Their coats need to be brushed daily and even after an outdoor game session. If proper care of the coat is not taken, then it may get tangled. The owners can also trim the coat short just to be able to manage it carefully.
They are very affectionate and form a strong bond with the family member, who spent a lot of time with them. They are always good with the kids who love them and respect them.

Exercise and Training:
Although Yorkies are small, they are active dogs. They love being part of the play session, hunting and walks. Housetraining them is not easy, but it can be accomplished with proper supervision and tolerance.

Health and Lifespan:
Yorkshire Terrier may suffer from primary health issues like dental disorders, knee problems, etc. They can live up to 16 years.
