During mid 18th century, the Golden Retriever dog was developed in Great Britain. According to American Kennel Club, this breed is listed at the second position amongst the most popular dogs in the world for the 2005 year. These dogs are good in hunting, herding, etc. They like to remain busy and thus, love to do activities. They become protective and very loyal to their owners and may develop behavioral issues on isolation.
Physical appearance:
The Golden Retriever dogs usually have height between 21.5 and 24 inches and they weigh 50 to 80 pounds. The female Retrievers are smaller in size as compared to males. These dogs look very attractive, kind and anxious. They have beautiful dark eyes and dropped ears. They love being accompanied by their owners and are well built to accompany you whole day. The thick and silky coat of this breed is either of light or dark golden color.
Grooming and Behavior:
These dogs need to be groomed well. Thus, they should be brushed with soft bristle brush at least two times in a week. During spring and fall this breed shed a lot and so, they should be combed and brushed daily. Also, their ears must be cleaned twice a week.
They are active and loving pets, but may not tolerate rough play. This breed should be trained in their early age to be kind to kids and other pets. However, they normally are good with all the other pets.
Exercise and Training:
This active breed needs regular exercise. A good walk twice in a day and playing games during the day will be enough for this breed. They love ballgame and its one of their favorites. Socializing and house-training them is necessary in order to make them socially good dogs.

They may suffer from diseases like hip dysplasia, eye disorders etc. They have lifespan of 11 to 13 years.
