Brittany dog was originally known as Brittany Spaniel. However, American Kennel Club officially changed the name to Brittany in 1982. This breed of dogs is descendent of French Spaniel and English Setters. This French breed has the traits of both his ancestors, but it hunts more like the English Setter. Thus, the club decided to change the name to Brittany by removing Spaniel from it.
Physical appearance:
These dogs have height between 17.5 and 20.5 inches. They weigh 30 to 40 pounds. The length of their body is almost equal to their height. They have beautiful, expressive eyes and dropped ears. They normally have bobbed or non-existent or docked tail. The coat is moderately long and wavy. The coat color is this breed is usually orange and white or liver and white.
Grooming and Behavior:
Their coat needs brushing two times in a week with soft bristle brush to prevent it from matting.
This breed is one of the popular hunting dogs in United States due to its versatile hunting abilities. They need active owners who can devote their time to them on regular basis. The adult dogs are playful with kids, while the puppies can be rough for small kids.
