Kuvasz Dog Breed Pictures

There is confusion amongst the experts over the origin of Kuvasz dog. Some believe it to have been originated in Asia 5,000 years ago, while the others believe it to have been bred from Tibetan Mastiff imported into Hungary. Since 14th century, this breed has been used as livestock guardian and even protective companion.

Physical appearance:
Kuvasz dogs have height between 24 and 30 inches. They normally weigh 70 to 110 pounds. They have very cute face featuring long head, dark eyes and small triangular ears that are dropped. They have long curvy tail. They have double coat. The inner coat is woolly, while the outer coat is long except on face, lower parts of the legs and even feet.

Grooming and Behavior:
These dogs need brushing two times every week. However, the inner coat should be brushed daily with the soft bristle brush during the shedding season.
This breed of dogs is anxious and active. Thus, they need an owner who can understand their anxiety and lead them. Therefore, it is believed that an experienced owner will be the most appropriate for them. They love spending time with their owners and dislike being alone for too long. They are very good with the kids and pets, but can’t tolerate rough play from any guest visiting at home.

Exercise and Training:
They need vigorous exercise including walks, jogging, ballgame or any other game of catch and agility training. The young Kuvaszok get into trouble, if they don’t get enough exercise.
Early training and socializing of this breed is necessary to make them kind and well behaved animals. Training these dogs can be challenging mainly because they are intelligent and can be independent. Socializing will help the breed to keep control on over protective instinct. If not socialized, this breed may become fearful.

Health and Lifespan:
Kuvasz dog is prone to hip dysplasia, eye disorders, etc. They have average lifespan of 9 to 11 years.
