Originated in Hungary, the Komondor dog is one of the old breeds of dogs. Theis breed is said to have been used as livestock protection dog. These dogs are protecting the flocks of sheep in the hilly regions of Hungary. In addition to this, these dogs are being used as protecting sheep dog at home in Western U.S.
Physical appearance:
The female and male Komondors usually have height of 25.5 inches and 27.5 inches respectively. The females weigh between 75 and 85 pounds, while the males weigh up to 100 pounds. The dog is sturdy and has heavy bones. They have white dense coat, which becomes corded as the dog grow into an adult.
Grooming and Behavior:
Keeping these dogs at home can be tough mainly because they need special grooming. So, it is advisable to discuss about the interest of keeping this breed at home with a breeder. The cords require utmost care because it may take around two days to dry on getting wet. Also, these cords get dirty sometimes.
The adult Komondors are very calm, albeit the puppies are playful. These dogs are great pets. They are watchful of the children of the family. However, they dislike rough play. Also, they bark on sensing threats due to their protective nature. Although they are good with pets and other dogs in the family, they may get aggressive towards strange dogs.
Exercise and Training:
This dog will be more than happy with morning and evening walk along with play session in between on daily basis. These dogs are independent. They are easy to train and love training. Socializing them is necessary as they may become over protective, if not socialized.

Komondor dog may suffer from health issues including torsion, hip dysplasia, etc. At the most, they can live up to 10 or 12 years.
