Originated in wilds of Afghanistan, the Afghan Hound dog is fast and sure-footed sighthound. The westerners came across this breed for the first time in 18th century. They found them capable of chasing and bringing down hare or deer. These dogs are equally capable of cornering the predators, including wolves and jackals.

The coat needs to be brushed daily with soft bristle brush to prevent it from tangling. Also, they should be given bath at least once a week. The coat should be blow dried, which may take 2 to 3 hours. Many owners prefer keeping the coat short for convenient cleaning and brushing.
They are fun loving dog. If socialized well, they are good with children. They aren’t good with small pets and may hurt or harm them due to their high hunting instinct.

Exercise and Training:
They need a walk at least one in a day. Their training and running should be conducted in fenced-in area because on seeing rabbits or hare, they may forget running and start chasing them. Training these dogs is a challenging task, mainly because they are stubborn and independent.
