Pomeranian Dogs, also referred as Poms, are descendents of sled dogs found in Iceland and Lapland. Introduced in mid 18th century in England, the breed gained popularity in United States lately in 18 century. These dogs are considered as extroverts. They tend to get excited very easily, for example, they heartily react to doorbells.
Physical appearance:
Poms are normally wrapped with double coat consisting thick undercoat that feels soft to touch and long outer coat. With short muzzle, they have rounded face. They look cute and adoring with beautiful almond-like eyes and mini upright ears. These dogs have curly tail that rests flat on their back.
They are normally small in size and weighs 3 to 7 pounds. These dogs have short body, albeit they have tall shoulders. The height of this breed is between 8 inches and 11 inches. They usually have body colors like red, cream, brown, etc. The Poms are very sturdy and really very active.
Grooming and Behavior:
They love cleanliness. They need to be brushed at least two times in a week. These dogs clean their face after eating with their paws.
They are very affectionate and fun loving pets. Poms can be great companion dogs for elder children. They can live in harmony with other family pets. However, this breed of dogs must be carefully supervised while they interact with other dogs. This is because they are tiny and also because they tend to bring the situation under control with other dogs.
Exercise and Training:
They need exercise on daily basis. A small ball throwing game or a short distance walk will be enough for this breed. They love chasing flying disc.
They can be taught trick training. They are capable of doing several dog activities like obedience competition, dog work, etc.
Lifespan:
Pomeranian dogs can live up to 16 years. However, they need to be checked for health issue like knee problems, eye problems, hypoglycemia, etc.
