Newfoundland Dog Picture

Newfoundland Dogs are native to Newfoundland Island, Canada. These are also referred to as Newfie. They are considered to be descendents of small black color water dogs. They are fun loving and playful dogs. Also, Newfie are ever ready to get into trouble.

Physical Appearance:
They are sturdy and heavily boned dogs. This breed of dogs are normally little longer than their actual height. They have height between 26 inches and 28 inches. They generally weigh up to 150 pounds. This breed of dogs has broad head with dark brown eyes. They have curl tail that lay low. They have double coat with thick inner coat and slightly long outer coat. These breeds normally have coat colors like black and white, brown, bluish gray, etc. 

Grooming and Behavior:
They need to be brushed at least twice every week. After they spend time in water, the caretaker must dry their coat to avoid any sort of tangling. This breed of dogs can easily jump into trouble. They are also considered as very aggressive chewers. They are really good pets. They are originally water rescuer and draft dogs, albeit they can be great companion dogs. However, they need to be trained to be gentle with children. They can stay with other dogs without any trouble.

Exercise and Training:
The Newfie needs little workout daily. A long walk and swimming will be more than enough for the Newfie. The Newfie can be given training after they pass their puppy class.
They are very intelligent and thus, they can be well trained to perform various tricks. They love socializing and playing.

Health and Lifespan:
Newfoundland Dogs usually have lifespan of 9 to 11 years. They should be checked for hip dysplasia, eye disorders, torsions, etc. as these diseases may lead them to death.
