Also referred as English Pointer, Pointer dog was first developed in 16th century in Great Britain. These dogs were used to find the game and then point at it, making it easy for the hunter to hunt the game. Their ability of pointing at the prey has been appreciated over the years, even after the invention of the guns.
Physical appearance:
They normally have height between 23 and 28 inches. They weigh between 45 and 75 pounds. Their face is of medium size with moderately long muzzle. They have beautiful, rounded eyes and dropped ears. The tail of this breed is long and pointed at the edge. Their coat is smooth and short. The dense coat is usually of liver, lemon, black, or orange color with white and sometimes without white color.
Grooming and Behavior:
These dogs need brushing at least two times in a week with soft bristle brush. They need owners who are capable of keeping them busy in some or the other activity. They still possess high level of hunting instinct. Some of the owners still use these dogs as hunting companions.
Their behavior with the children is good, but they must be monitored when they are with small pets. The puppy Pointers can be bit rough with the kids. So, they should be trained to behave properly with kids.
